1.  Trying to solve operational problems with technology.

Technology is a lot like money:  a great multiplier but not necessarily a great problem solver.  All of us have probably found this to be true with money – maybe with that relative who consistently has financial problems.  No matter how much money we try to throw at that problem, it is not going to fix the root cause.

Technology is the same way.  Although many technology sales people who come to your business claim their system will make all your operational problems go away, that simply is not true.  Don’t look at technology as a “magic wand” to solve all your problems.  After thinking through your methods, ask yourself whether technology could improve the efficiency of your existing process.

If your business is losing money, look at the root cause rather than purchasing a band-aide.  After improving and correcting your processes, apply technology to automate and make them more efficient.  Hire the right people; then provide them with reporting they need to improve their performance.

2.  Not considering future changes.

Too many small business owners purchase a system that is simply not ready to accept Apple Pay, Google Wallet, and EMV smart card payments.  This is an example of not considering future changes.

One reason for this lack of functionality is the temptation to purchase cheap, overseas hardware.  Our company uses a hardware supplier who manufactures the point of sale hardware right here in the United States.  We pay about 30% more for our hardware.  But we are able to provide a four year warranty and are ready to integrate with the latest forms of payment.

Transactionexpert.com has taken integration to a whole new level.  We own a web design company, offer payment processing services, and payroll processing services.  Our expertise is creating all of your technology systems to talk to each other.
